In October 2024, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced the availability of more than $22 million in grant money for fair housing organizations. Through HUD’s Fair Housing Initiatives Program (FHIP), the funding will support fair housing education and outreach, testing and enforcement, according to a press release.
Money is made available each year to “enforce fair housing laws and policies as well as educate the public, housing providers and local governments about their rights and responsibilities under the Fair Housing Act,” the release stated.
HUD is making grants available this year in four categories:
- Education and Outreach Initiative (EOI) - $8.4 million
- Education and Outreach Initiative – Test Coordinator Training (EOI-TCT) - $500,000
- Fair Housing Organizations Initiative (FHOI) - $3.7 million
- Private Enforcement Initiative (PEI) - $9.7 million
