PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: INVEST IN YOUR EDUCATION & FUTURE AT LvHJ
LvHJ believes that your success is our success. We invest in our team by providing opportunities for professional development in order for them to gain more knowledge and skills throughout the year — inside and outside of the firm.
LvHJ believes in regular feedback for each individual. To encourage this philosophy, we conduct routine performance reviews throughout the year, and not just on an annual basis. We value our staff’s input and utilize their own self-evaluation and goals as a starting point for discussion. We focus on strengths and areas for improvement in core categories while not forcing our team members into predetermined ratings and rankings.
LvHJ’s mentoring program serves to provide personal growth and career advancement to all position levels within the firm. The program generates candid, constructive, and timely communication about the individual’s concerns or questions and provides potential solutions. Here is how it works – after 90 days of employment, staff choose one of our Seniors, Managers, Principals or Partners to be their mentor. It is a self-directed program, so staff get to set the goals, initiate meetings, and determine whether the particular mentor-mentee relationship is working for them. Regular check-ins with human resources help to ensure the program is a valuable one.
As part of a firm-wide professional development initiative, LvHJ encourages all professional staff to attend a variety of courses that help them to remain competitive — courses that develop their advanced technical skills as well as their knowledge of industry regulations and trends. The firm hosts a series of CPE training sessions in the office throughout the year while also reimbursing staff for approved courses outside of the office.
The firm supports professional staff who pursue graduate degrees in tax and accounting. To this end, we reimburse our team members a significant portion of the costs for their tuition, fees and books each year.
CPA License Exam Preparation
LvHJ encourages all of its professional staff to take the Uniform CPA Examination, and obtain and hold a valid California CPA License. The firm will reimburse staff a substantial part of their expenses to achieve the license as well as provide paid time off to prepare for and take the exam.
LvHJ believes in the value of knowledge and networking. The firm pays membership dues for its professional staff in both the CalCPA and AICPA societies. We also encourage our team to attend and/or join other trade and professional associations.
